Note: While in Washington Dc, Joseph Clark entered into a bsuiness partnership with William King. While looking through the Nicholson papers I noticed that Wm King did write several letters to John Nicholson. The letters in the John Nicholson Papers begin in September 1794- October 1795. They do not mention Joseph Clark, however, they do confirm that a business relationship existed between Nicholson and Wm King.

1797/11/11: Letter from Thomas Law to Nicholson

"Why not let me sell two or three of the houses in Baltimore or why not devise some means for concluding this long protracted business".

Significance: Did Morris, Nicholson, and Greenleaf build in Baltimore. Could this be why Clark moves to Baltimore in 1996?

I reread Clark's letters in an attempt to establish the timeline of his encounters with Morris, Nicholson, and Greenleaf. In a letter dated

1797/01/25 (see TIF files):

"With all consideration and respect, I address you soliciting your notice and assistance to and from the following statement. Allow me to observe that I AM and have been in the employ since May 1794 of Mess Morris, Nicholson, and Greenleaf".

Significance: Clark claims to still be under the employ of MNG. He is in Baltimore at this time. Is he building there and why is there no mention of this in his accounts?
