In rereading the Kim Rice article, I noticed that she claimed that Joseph Clark apprenticed his son as a cordwainer. As a result, I transcripted the said indenture of Joseph Clark son of Joseph Clark of the City of Baltimore. At this time [1798/03/23] Joseph Clark the architect of the State House lived on 20 S. High Street. This is almost one month prior to his death. However, when Thomas K. Beale takes over Clark's estate (in 1799) the chancery record mentions the only living heirs to Clark as two daughter Mary and Jane. As a result, I believe that the Joseph Clark who apprentices his son as a cordwainer is NOT the Jose[h Clark, archtiect of the State House.
